Every year XLRI, Jamshedpur conducts XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) to admit students in MBA and PGDM courses in XLRI and other renowned MBA Institutes in India which accept XAT scores. This is a national level online examination, usually held across the country, on the first Sunday of January. The duration of the examination is 3 hours. Here is a brief description of XAT Eligibility and Selection Process along with XAT Registration, XAT Admit card, and XAT Result.
Eligibility Criteria for XAT
An aspiring candidate who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline under a recognized university or board is eligible to take up XAT. However, the graduation course should be of at least three years’ duration. Students who will appear in their Final Examination of Bachelor’s Degree are also eligible for the examination. But they have to produce their final mark sheets or pass out certificates at the time of admission. There is no age limit for the aspiring candidates to be eligible for the examination.
To sit for XAT, the candidates should register online. Usually, the XAT Registration starts in August and continues until November. Before filling up the form, they must go through the ‘Rules and Regulations’ thoroughly. However, they have to apply separately for admission in XAT associated institutes other than XLRI. To fill up the registration form, they must have a valid E-mail id and mobile number. After, filling up their basic information in the prescribed slot, they will receive XAT ID. Then a password will be generated to them through E-mail and SMS. The XAT ID and password will be needed for future communication. They also need to upload their photograph along with signature to complete the registration procedure. The XAT Registration fees can be paid through Credit Card/ Debit Card or Online Banking. The registration fee is Rs 1700 and with the late fee, it is Rs 2000.
XAT Admit Card
The admit cards will be uploaded in the third week of December. The candidates can download their XAT Admit Cards then. To download the admit card the candidates must log in the official website of XAT examination using their XAT ID and Password. The admit card is to be carried to the exam Center and produced whenever asked. Candidates will not be allowed to enter the examination hall without the XAT Admit Cards. It is mandatory for them to carry a valid ID proof (Voter Card/ Adhar Card/ Passport/ Driving Licence etc) along with the admit card. They will get to know of their examination centre from the admit card. Further, they are advised to keep their admit cards in safe custody, as it will be needed at the time of interview and admission.
In the current format, the online examination is held for three hours duration instead of three and a half hours. There are four sections in the question paper. These sections are- Decision Making, Verbal and Logical Reasoning, Quantitive Ability and Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge. However, the XLRI has introduced a change in the question pattern. The Essay Writing section has been excluded from the question paper. In this examination, the students have to answer the multiple choice questions. Each question carries one mark. For every correct answer, they will be awarded one mark and for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. Again, 0.5 marks will be deducted for questions unattended beyond 8. So students must be very careful while answering the questions.
XAT Mock Test
XLRI, the conducting body of XAT examination, arranges for a mock test before the original examination. The candidates are advised to appear in the mock test to get an idea about the examination and to judge their preparation.
XAT Answer Key
After, the examination, XLRI publishes the answer key online. The aspirants can verify their answers from this and calculate their score.
The result is usually published online in the third week of January. The candidates can check their XAT Result by logging in the website using their id and password. They are advised to download the scorecard then. The XAT Result shows the sectional and overall scores.
XAT cut off
After, the result XLRI publishes the XAT Cut off. If a candidate scores the minimum cut off marks, he /she will be asked to appear for Writing Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
XAT Selection Process
The selection procedure includes XAT Cut off marks, Writing Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The selection procedure generally starts in February. The candidates’ academic records, work experience (if any), profile along with performance in the GD and PI decide his admission in a reputed B-School.
